Sacraments of Initiation

Sacraments of Initiation

Baptism, Confirmation and first Eucharist lay the foundations of every Christian life. We are born anew by Baptism, strengthened by the Sacrament of Confirmation, and receive in the Eucharist the food of eternal life.

Baptism

In Baptism, the Holy Spirit moves us to answer Christ's call to holiness. In Baptism, we are asked to walk by the light of Christ and to trust in his wisdom. We are invited to submit our hearts to Christ with ever deeper love.

If you are interested in infant baptism at Sacred Heart Church please download the form below and return it to the parish office.

Baptism Preparation Class is required for all parents of children whom they plan to baptize. Please plan on attending a baptismal prep session at least one month prior to your baptism date. Classes are held each month on the third Thursday at 7pm at the Holy Spirit Parish office located at 667 Columbia Turnpike East Greenbush, NY 12061.

For any questions please contact the parish office at 518-732-2155

First Communion

First Communion at Sacred Heart Church is offered in Second Grade. Those intending to enroll for first communion must do so prior to September of the second grade year. First Communion is held in May.

Please contact Lisa McGarvey-Davis at 518-495-5245 to find out more about our faith formation classes and register your child for first communion.

Confirmation

Confirmation refers to the rite in which, after a believer has been baptized, they make a mature commitment to the faith, and receive an increased gifting of the Holy Spirit through the bishop’s prayer, laying on of hands, and anointing.

At Sacred Heart our parishoners make this commitment at the age of 15 or by 10 grade. Confirmation is typically held in November and the preperation process begins in the summer prior.

Please call our Faith Formation Coordinator Lisa McGarvey-Davis at 518-495-5245 for more information regarding confirmation.
